FIVE WEEKS TO BOOK PROPOSAL

In this five-week course, we will develop and craft a first draft of your book proposal, including the four main pieces of your pitch - overview, marketing plan, chapter summaries, and sample chapter. In each class, we will focus on different elements of the proposal process and querying to agents.

Week One: Grab the MIC - We establish the meaning, intent, and confidence of your message so you can begin to develop the promise, approach, and positioning for your book - and proposal overview.

Week Two: Find Your Hook - We dive into your platform and the audience for your book - establishing your community, reach, and how to create a marketing strategy for today and the day when your book is published.

Week Three: Unpack Your Stories - We begin to establish the mechanics of your story, creating an outline for your book and drafting your chapter summaries for the book proposal.

Week Four: Rise to Write - It’s time for the sample chapter. We’ll create a simple strategy to write the first draft of your sample chapter, identifying genre, tone, and the threads of your story - and strengths of your storytelling.

Week Five: Query, Query, Query - We discuss the querying process, sharing what agents are looking for, and how you can begin to not only write your proposal, but build relationships in the literary community.
